I've had a quote for PV and was searching Google for some more info. I found this discussion

would appear that the installation prices in Oz are a good deal lower - greater than 30% on the quote I got.Any comments?

Many installers are probably trying to recoup the costs of training to become MICROGENERATION CERTIFICATION SCHEME qualified over the first few installations.
Total trade kit costs for a 4kW scheme seem to be about GBP8500 plus 20%Vat a straightforward installation takes one day to fit the approx 16 panels to a roof between 2 blokes, a day to fit the inverter and commission the system plus hire of scaffolding.
Say 8500+800fitting+1000 scaffolding=10300 plus 5% VAT=10815 to break even or 13k with a comfortable profit margin.
