So all those suppliers selling spares/replacements are obviously wasting their time! :-)))

I suspect it depends on whether you live in a soft water area - or not.

Hmmm, I wonder what the incidence of heart disease is though ?, it is supposed to be higher in soft water areas :-(

I had to replace a ceramic cartridge after it was about 20 years old. The hardware shop down in Lancing (Scardifield and Gardiner?) thought that was goog going, but at least they do keep all the permutations in stock (there are many).

Lead poisoning is certainly a problem. In a previous job I was part of a team designing phosphate dosing panels, to dose water supplies and prevent them absorbing lead from old pipes - with no limescale, the lead remains clean and soluble, even a century later.
