Plastic plumbing

Further to my queries regarding replacing lead piping and using plastic.

The house I am working on is in Manchester, whereas I live in North Staffs. After a few days working up there we had the car packed and were ready to come home when we noticed water dripping in over the back door. Thinking it was coming in from a small porch I was inclined to leave, however I thought it expedient to investigate. Luckily.

I found that the problem was the hot water supply under the bath where is converted from lead to copper was leaking. It was very awkward to get at, the thought of trying to reach it without removing the bath gave me nightmares. Luckily the lead pipe terminated in the kitchen under the worktop above the washing machine.

It took about an hour and a half or so to remove the lead piping, a quick trip to the plumbers merchant, plastic pipe and fittings purchased, then less than an hour to fit!

It has its usage, but alas no panacea.
