Apart from mechanical strength are there any 'rules' about the use of plastic or metal conduit in electrical installations?

It probably says somewhere not to use the plastic conduit as an earth.
I don't think you're allowed to use metal conduit in bathrooms etc and certain other locations with special earth requirements
