Plasterboard hollow wall fixings

OK, something that will only just through the plasterboard is going to be too long.

Do you have any more bright ideas?

Do tell us how far this will intrude into the cavity?

Thanks for that. Velcro would never have occurred to me.

Sleeve anchors can be good - they are longish when you insert them, but once set, the back profile is quite shallow since they "mushroom" out on the inside of the wall. Once they are set you can also cut down the bolt since you no longer need the length to set the fastener.

Perhaps his 'picture' is like this:

The Night Watch (1642) by Rembrandt 11′ 11″ x 14′ 4″ (3.6 x 4.34 metres)

I suspect something more than a pin would indeed be needed.

No, it's a little smaller (and a lot less valuable) and it's not a picture, it's a mirror, which means that it will be subject to occasional cleaning with the subsequent extra stress and strain on the hook.

Actually NOT. the picture hanger kits they sell are in essence just a hard steel pin with a brass head.

I have some pretty big pictures in heavy frames.

Yes, I've used a few of those to hang pictures on both plasterboard, and also the end 'wall' of some kitchen units (Where you obviously don't want to be drilling a hole !).

They do the job. Not tried to remove one yet though !

I don't know how well they come off plasterboard, but have used them on PVC frames for hanging Christmas lights and they released very easily when the tag was pulled in the right direction.

I've pulled them from painted lining paper and they have left no mark and have not lifted the layer of paint.

Thanks for that (and thanks too to everyone who later endorsed the choice); I don't need them now for this job but the reference will surely come in handy later.

followup comments) and apologies for misattributing the recommendation in another post. I don't need them now for this job but they'll surely come in handy in the future/

But for the OP requirement probably too long. These fixings come with a screw approx 30mm long.

I actually got my tub of these out yesterday but decided that they were a bit overkill for the very light object I had to hang from a plasterboard suspended ceiling (plasterboard suspended/attached to a metal grid frame). I used a couple of the smallest plastic plugs I could find from my stash :)

Yes but I discard the screws and use any 'gold screw' of the length I need.
