Pendant ES sockets

When so many mains lamps are being produced in ES form, why it is almost impossible to buy pendant ES sockets to replace BC sockets? None of the usual sheds or electrical suppliers seem to have any pendant E27 sockets available, although they are overflowing with BC ones.

Sure, there are some available on the web, but why the shortage over-the-counter?

I have wondered that too, as I was hoping to standarise on ES lamps. One problem is that ES lampholders have a larger diameter so many older lampshades will not fit them (though some we have bought recently have a removable insert to alter the diameter to suit).

I found it was possible to buy E27 lampholders, complete with a long flex designed to be part of a standard lamp, at £3 from Ikea:

(though I'm not sure whether it was worth my time in trekking around that awful store just to get a couple of them).

I cannot understand why anyone would prefer to use ES fittings instead of BC fittings.

I tend to agree, but many lamps are now produced /only/ in ES fitting. In this particular case, we bought one of these for our 2-years old grandson who loves coloured lights and remote controls:

It was only after I bought it that I discovered the difficulty in buying pendant ES fittings. In the end, it was simpler to buy a BC-ES converter from Maplin (though being Maplin, rather expensive). At least that way the BC fitting was preserved for future use when he grows tired of playing with the coloured lamp!
