Part P like-for-like replacement

Jan 26, 2019 Last reply: 7 years ago 50 Replies

I was responding to the comment 'Well, if you take the old wiring out, no-one will be able to say what was there before, will they?' and suggesting that in my case it may be possible to infer what was there before by following the route of the cable bearing different colours.

As my previous reply, I was responding to what someone else said. That's how newsgroups work innit.

Good to know. I was a bit concerned as the bezel of the current one is

105mm in diameter, and the Robus one is only 87mm. I assumed the cut-outs would be different, but I've been up in the loft to check and the one there is 72mm. Something working out ok for a change!

I've got some LEDs in the en-suite, and they are nominally 3000K. Quite a good warm white, so that's what I'll use in the bathroom. I find those LEDs with a lot of blue far too harsh - reminds me too much of those glaringly blue car headlamps!

I'm in good company, then.

Never argue with The Management... ;-)

Is there a reason you're repeating yourself?

I was not sure you had successfully related the answer to the question. What is the point you are seeking to make anyway?

Well, it would be if you wanted to carry out an undercover operation to modify the wiring without leaving any obvious trace, which I thought was the concept I was responding to.

The fact remains that if you have a wiring certificate for an era where the colours were red and black, you then change some to brown and blue, someone asks for the wiring certificate for the new work and you say you haven't got one, there might be a question to answer (namely was this a like-for-like replacement or was it new work?).

ok, if you don't understand the point/question then good luck.

None at all. Just tell purchaser's solicitor it was a subsequent addition to the wiring for which you have no documentation. That is bound to satisfy him or her.

spuorgelgoog made a point and I chose to comment on it, as is my entitlement. Check the record. If you don't like it go start your own thread.

"Die Cast Aluminium"

Question:- Can I use them in my soffits ?

Answ: Hi AJ65,

These are IP65 so fitting them outside is OK, although there could be premature rusting due to weather conditions eg: if you are close to the coast

Rusting?, Diecast Aluminium ??

That is in fact perfectly proper English: the ordinary, dictionary meaning of "rust" covers corrosion of metals other than iron. Possibly a customer service wage slave seeking to make use of an Eng. Lit. PhD ;)

and?

why would I want to read you repeat yourself again? How would that be useful?

What do you think I don't like? I don't care if you fail to grasp people's points. I just won't persist in explaining something you're not getting.

Why would I want to start another thread, and on what? You're not making sense.

Part P says nothing at all about what people might say if old wiring is taken out. To remind you, Owain said, 'Well, if you take the old wiring out, no-one will be able to say what was there before, will they?' and I was commenting on that proposition.

No, the record of what Owain said.

I would rather you read the context then you might understand the concept of discussion.

It was a euphemism.

Agreement reached at the gf's parents.

The spotlights in the bathroom standing area (or sitting area for women) and over the sink are going to be warm white and the one over the shower, the one that turns on with the electric shower pull switch (that also turns on the extractor fan) is going to be cool white.

Only he has a shower, she always has a bath (it helps her knew hip etc).

If the old wiring isn't there, you can't say the new wiring is different, can you?

I understand the situation just fine. It is you who have failed to. Now you just want to waste time. I'm done on this.

Nor can you say it's a like for like replacement :-)

Whereas if the colours are the same the problem does not arise - a point that some members fail to grasp.

That they have to be 'like for like' (which nobody will know unless there is an audit trail or they are 'invisible')?

Not really. New colours were permitted before part P was introduced, and old colours were still permitted after it...

(add to that that no one gives a flying f*ck anyway!)
