palster damp around shower lights

We have just installed some IP65 rated downlighters in our en-suite. The plaster around the 2 that are above the shower soak up the condensation, however in the loft the plaster boards are dry. So I think its due to where the hole was cut out for the lights and the condensation is being trapped between the light fitting and the plaster and is soaking into the plaster. Does anybody know how to stop this happening?

How about removing the fittings, letting everything dry out properly (which would include not using the shower for some time) then paint the whole area with an oil-based paint to seal it; make sure you get plenty of paint on the cut surface of the board at the hole. That ought to sort it; but might be an idea to seal round the edges of the fitting with silicone sealant when you offer the lights back up to the ceiling, as you don't want steam or vapour getting past into the roof space anyway, where it can cause damage in the long term.

One assumes that the ceiling is painted and that there is now a cut and unsealed edge to the plasterboard. Seal that cut edge with something(*) and the problem should go away.

(*)The paint you used for the ceiling will do.
