Paint! Really dangerous stuff if taken on the bus. (2023 Update)

In all fairness though it normally takes me a week to get the lid off a can of paint. If I'd known it was so easy to open on a bus I'd have tried that.

I have taken stepladders on a bus.

And a load of total c*ck. Wtf would take a ton of reeled cable up the stairs?

Thrown off the bus by the driver for carrying a tub of fence paint he said its not company policy to allow paint on the bus I said to him I have never had a problem before he replied well you have today so I got off and waited for next one while I waited I put the paint in a carrier bag and the bus came and nothing was said by the driver as the journey continued a young woman got on the bus with a mirror she was carrying under her arm nothing was said the a young woman got on with her friend they had two pushchairs and the young kids that was with them bought on their scooters x2 and again nothing said by the driver but yet carry paint your not allowed world is mad with rules and regulations

The company is probably worried about the effect on its bus if the paint gets spilled. If it gets on the fabric of a seat, the seat will most likely have to be replaced or re-upholstered. Even if it is just a job of cleaning it from hard surfaces, the bus will be out of service for a while when it is not scheduled to be.

Maybe the driver in question has seen the aftermath of a spilled pot of paint.

Most council tips, erm recycling centres no longer let you bring old paint in either, it apparently has to go to a licensed site. That is no doubt why every clump of bushes has old empty paint tins in it. Brian

One thing did annoy me about 6 months ago. The busses stop announcements were not working. The driver said it was broken, has been for three weeks. He told me that they see it as a low priority, whereas they are not allowed to use the bus if the wheelchair ramp is broken. I said, so if all your windows were painted black so nobody could see where they were, you could still go out then? He did not get my point. Brian

To be fair, the original discussion was eleven years ago...

You can here (Kent), but they prefer that before bringing it in you leave the lid off the can until the paint has gone solid.

The only announcement my local buses have is a ding sounding and a sign saying 'bus stopping' lighting up. I have, however, seen somebody with a white stick speak to the driver on entry and the driver then called out their stop when we got there.

Don't think I've ever heard of an iPad exploding of course using an old one or doing something not recommended is always a bad idea. quote a few ebikes seem to be going up in flames. Hope this wasn't you with your can of paint ;-)

Quite a few of the buses I use have USB connectors on the back of the seat so you can charge a device.

Somewhere recently, I saw a suggestion to stir in some cement to water based paint.

I was on the London underground many years ago when a man with a 5lt tin of white paint, he was reading a book and when he noticed the tube had stopped at his stop he jumped up, the handle of the paint broke and dropped to the floor lid came off and the person sitting next to him was covered with paint.

I thought they were to get the customers' phones to power the bus if its battery went flat ;-)

Our buses have what appears to be GPS, and both visual (LED display) and vocal announcement of "what the next stop is".

If the vocal system stops working, some of the drivers revert to announcing the stops themselves. This is usually the older drivers.

I've noticed a few times they have given the wrong place/road names, even from a different area. Once it just cycled through all the places before the bus even reached them. The majority of times though they seem to work quite well.

Never found that in my area of London, but as most peolpe seem to be staring down at their phones they can work out where they are if they need to.

I mentioned that, on the 17th.

I know, but I took it back (on the 17th) to the original site to give it more chance of being seen. Of course, it has eventually turned up here.
