Is it bad idea to paint my house with barn and fence paint if I plan on repainting it next year (2025 Update)

If it is a self priming alkyd modified latex like Behr barn and fence paint it is likely about as good as anything you might want to apply to the weathered wood..

Why not just use the good stuff initially ? Too strapped for cash by the purchase ?

The biggest part of a paint job is LABOR. And if it's an old house, with most of the paint gone, that;s a lot of labor on proper prep work. It needs to be washed, scraped and sanded as needed, defects fixed, caulked, then PRIMED, and then painted. To just quick slap a coat of anything on there is a mistake, you'd be better off waiting another year and doing it right. If it's not properly prepared, you'll have paint on top of crap that's going to fail, ie you'll be worse off than you are now. If you're paying for labor, it's even more madness.
