Oven element connection

Main electric oven not working......

Pulled the oven out and an unattached connection to the element, looking closely it looks like it has overheated and burned. So I am thinking maybe the connection not tight enough and arcing. So should I just clean up make sure connection is tight or should I look for some other cause?

I’ve seen connections fail in a similar way before - when you have a high current passing through a connection which has a bit too much resistance. It gradually ‘cooks’, increases the resistance, and eventually it fails.

The chances are the wire is oxidised for some length and should be replaced, along with the push on connector. The ‘spade’ on the element will probably clean up but don’t remove too much or the new push on connector won’t be a tight fit and it will fail again soon.

Well you can only try, but if its buggered the connection, it may just trip the breaker. Brian
