Hello,
Neither Wickes nor Screwfix sell outwards opening exterior doors. I need one for my garage and if I put a car in, I don't think there will be room for a door to open inwards. Does anyone know where I can find one, reasonably priced?
Thanks.

My front door opens outwards as Tim Decker will testify. Bought from Wickes. IIRC I had to order it for direct delivery.
Isn't it just a matter of installing the frame the other way round?
Stephen,
What type of "outwards opening exterior door" do you require?
Flush - (single or double) Ledged and braced - (single or double) Framed, ledged and braced - (single or double) Panel - (single or double)
All these doors can be used to open outwards by either turning a door frame, rebate out - or by using a simple door lining with planted stops - standard ironmongery can be used.

If you're worried about security (possibly you're not with a garage) don't forget to use hinge bolts - outwards-opening doors are vulnerable to being taken off their hinges.
Mt Wickes one has said hinge bolts as standard.
At the moment I can't find any that open outwards so I would buy whatever comes along first!
I had an e-mail from Wickes saying that they would not be weatherproof installed back-to-front (see my older thread on Wickes doors) and that they don't sell any doors that open outwards. perhaps the Medway Highway Man has a line they have since discontinued?
My door was a 'pre framed' one available to order. e.g. you bought the door & frame as a complete set.
The instructions clearly stated that it could be hung either way round. Been there for 5 - 6 years no problem.
Wickes staff aren't always the sharpest tools in the box.
Stephen,
I would respectfully say that the person dealing with your request was talking through his hat!
The reasons for this statement:
1 Flush doors - These are designed to be fitted so that they can be opened in or out - I have fitted many of these opening both ways.2 Ledged and braced - Again, these are specifically designed for external fitting in garden sheds etc and can be hung to open both in and out - again, I have fitted many to open both ways
3 Ditto the as can the others. The problems that arise of weatherproofing are the same as hanging an inward opening door and can be overcome quite easily.
To fit a flush door - simply fit the door frame with the rebates fitting outwards and hang the door using butt hinges in the normal manner, fit a standard mortice or yale lock and fit a metal or wooden weatherboard on the bottom to deflect the rain.
With regards to security - there are a number of different locks and devices that will make an outward opening door a little more secure and these usually consist of case hardened pins in the lock bolts, double throw locks or specialised receivers - hardly warranted in a garage where a simple (decent quality) hasp and staple and padlock will suffice.
As the Medway Handman has said - some of the Wickes' staff are not exactly knowledeable with the out-of- the ordinary situations.
