Me "That cat food delivery you ordered has 4 times the amount of cat food I asked you to order"

Her "I ordered two boxes"

Me "I know but eight boxes have been delivered"

Her "No they have not"

I am still looking at eight boxes of cat food. And so is my cat.

Surely the important question is how many have you been charged for?

Yes as long as they don't go off then you can use them, or if they can, I see a business opportunity here. Brian

At that price, let her be 'correct'

Well get the cat to tell her. She'll probably listen to the cat.

When is a box not a box, when its a carton. I also remember buying paper clips via a mail order office supply company. I ordered five boxes. I ended up with five cartons with five boxes in each one. I never needed to reorder again. A roll of brown paper. Very cheap it was. Somewhat wider than I wanted, but no matter. 20 years later I still have half the roll left in my wardrobe and its still very heavy to lift One needs to be so careful. Brian

There was a scam years ago involving carbon paper. The suppliers realised the ordering for this stuff was generally left to the office junior or the receptionist. The rep would con them into a large order and when it arrrived the person who ordered it would realise their mistake and hide it

They would discuss the quantity in reams which office junior didn't understand but would just agree to hide their ignorance.

I can remeber somebody - not junior - ordering a gross of specially printed log books. Trouble was the supply unit was a gross.

A colleague once managed to multiply the total amount of power cable needed, for all the equipment cases for a particular LUL contract, by the number of vehicles (effectively getting the square of the multiplier he should have used). This was big specialist stuff, on cable drums about 1.5 metre dia. Some was sold on to the vehicle builder, the rest sat around for ages until it eventually went for scrap.

I once wanted an AAA battery holder.

CPC had them for about 5 or 10 P, but you had to order 10......

So I ordered 10

I got 10 x 10!

I've had two cases where I paid for one 'inner' but they sent me an 'outer' containing a multiple.

One was halogen tubes for an HP laser printer. They'd come from the USA and I did tell them; as expected they told me to keep them. I sold three on ebay and made more than enough to cover the cost of all of them (I had thought shipping was steep).

The other was a silly metal adaptor to fit an optical drive into an HP microserver. 15 quid! But I got five, so I kept quiet. (you can get 3D printed versions on eBay now).
