OT: WhatsApp problem.

I had the same problem. Eventually uninstalled and re-installed, not sure of version numbers, but new install was from MS store, so I suspected MS had disabled previous installed version in order to force you to take the version from MS store. That's my experience, dunno if my suspicions are valid or not!

Mainly use WhatsApp on the Win10 laptop. Worked fine for years. Just recently, it has refused to run. Click on the icon, and nothing happens. Tried uninstalling. New did them work until shutdown and reboot. But click on the installer and it does load and work normally again. Until you shut the laptop down.

Think it may have coincided with a Win10 update. But has been at least one other since this problem appeared. Google no help - just gives the standard responses to any prog not running.

It appears to be the xxxxxx.40.0 WhatsApp update, uninstalled it and reinstalled version 2.216.15.0 dated 3rd August. Works fine.

I'll try that, thanks.

That sounds a phone issue. The web page should give you a QR code. If the phone doesn't see or recognise it then I might suggest that's your issue.

You could try other browsers and see if the result is the same in each case.

Anti virus stopping it via a firewall, perhaps, not permanently opening the ports? Brian

No luck. On trying to install an earlier version it immediately tried to update it before installing. And went into a loop when trying.

I suspect your uninstaller left the updater file on your computer. Download 'Everything' from Void Tools and do a search for WhatsApp on the C drive and delete all associated files. Ensure you save the earlier version of WA Installer on a different drive. WA the installed application is stored in the user/apps directory which is hidden, but 'Everything' can see it and you can delete all the WA files.

PS..before you run the newly installed WA, use 'Everything' to delete WhatsApp Updater.exe

I did find the hidden files in Apps Data and deleted them. Before attempting the new install.
