I'm going out to dinner with some friends in a week or so, and the organiser has requested we order the food we want (from a menu) in advance. Not because it's cheaper, or will reduce the time waiting for it to be delivered to table, but simply to avoid the inevitable hiatus while a waiter tries to extract contemporaneous orders from a group of people who probably keep changing their mind what they want.
