so the toilet pan is illuminated when a warm No 2 passes its PIR sensor ?

Is this so that the No 2 can be inspected for colour and shape and any abnormal observations then passed on to the GP?

Its probably very hard to see a small amount of blood in your s*it. The UK test kit for early stage bowel cancer used to be smearing s*it on a transparent plastic window which was then sent off to be viewed under a microscope.

That's going to become pretty disgusting in short order. A better idea would be a laser with a suitable diffuser mounted in the celing and pointing straight down into the water. --

I was a little surprised by a ?throne? in a rather fancy restaurant in LA in 2016. It had all kinds of gizmos besides the normal dual flush, including music while you were relieving yourself.

Quite a contrast to an outside privy without even electric light I recall some houses having in my (original) home town when I was a lad.

Good point. The ?habit? of looking at the product is an old one - much older than ideas re diet and bowel cancer (this was mentioned in a documentary). If, they have a lower rate of bowel cancer, it is probably diet related. Interesting given their diet - my experience of German food is that it tends to be high in fat, meat etc. and things we are told to reduce.

Of course, it wouldn?t be the first time diet advice has been misleading. Look at eggs and dairy products.

The test checks for blood, rather than cancer. Blood can be present for numerous reasons. From memory, 1 in 20 cases where blood is detected turn out to be cancer related. The rest are things like piles, divititulitus, ?.

They still do a similar screening- it seems to start at 60. Not sure how they check the sample but the info above is freely available.

Sounds like a gimmick to me. How is it powered?

My mum picked up bowel cancer early enough for it to be treated successfully (I didn't aks for details). I suspect the "German Shelf" might make it easier. It would certainly be better for the biennial screening kit (although the new, single plastic prong one is much easier than the old, three cardboard spatulas version).

Every 2 years they send me a test kit. So far I've only seen the old kit which I believe has since been updated

From memory, the instructions say that the sample shouldn't touch the bowl (catch it in toilet paper) - perhaps because your test sample could be contaminated by someone else using the same toilet.

Just received my second plastic prong kit, so they've been around in some areas for two years at least.
