OT: Stupid brains and spatial awareness

Why is it our brains can't handle the concept that our heads extend a long way above our eyes, and end up bashing our heads on some low beam or other?

A similar thing happens when wearing shoes, we don't realise they extend an inch past our feet.

I rarely have those problems if fact I c an;t rememebr the last time it happened but maybe my brain has become better equiped to handle such complex thinxs I know babies have problems standing.

You;d have thpought you'd be able to see what's in front of you , you have two eyes giving sufficient vision don't you ?

But things you bang your head on are above your eye level. It's not just me, they put warnings on low things you might bash your head on. And I remember in Art class at school, we were told (and surprised to learn) that our eyes were not 3/4s of the way up our heads.

I'll take that as a yes.

Maybe you have impaired proprioception - which is an awareness of the position of your body.

It sounds like you've banged your head more than a few times.

It's not just me, or they wouldn't put warning signs on low beams.

I thought those signs were put there to avoid liability for injury.

I can't think when I ever needed a sign to tell me the beam it was on was low.

If it's not needed, then there couldn't be any liability.

What you think is irrelevent. Sensible people will put a sign up to avoid the possibility of being sued for thousands of pounds. Welcome to reality.

I have this problem whenever I wear a hard hat.

Likewise. My brain adjusts perfectly well so my head will avoid the low ceiling, but it can't cope with the hat so I end up bashing that in situations where I wouldn't have bashed my unprotected head.

I can see above my eye level, I can see above the horoizon too.

are you sure about that ;-)

Why do that you claimed your eyes see everything.

Well we blind suffer from this big time of course. You can now get a pair of sunglasses called Eye Glasses that contain the same electronics as in a car reversing sensor. the thing is connected in the frame to a mobile phone vibrator so as you get closer to bashing your head, the vibrations get closer togeether. Fun device. Brian

Only if they consider it's likely to happen, which was my point. People DO bang their heads.
