OT - SPAM storm

Following on from various other comments about SPAM.

Over the last week the amount of SPAM has increased enormously, with up to

40-50 messages a day.

Has something significant changed?

Oh, and apparently my partner has been riding an African pygmy. Poor bugger is only 15" tall. I think this is very cruel.

I had a spam storm a few weeks ago, mostly from e.walgreens, walgreens proper being the US version of Boots, i.e. a large pharmaceutical chain AIUI. But it seems to have blown over now.

Usenet, Google Groups, or email? Seeing nothing here but my email is triple-filtered through Icelandic limestone for a mellow aroma doctors prefer.

The email in this NG header, which I don't hide because it is so old that it was posted in a White Pages by BT as part of the original trial service.

However despite being very well known, until a week ago there was virtually no SPAM.

Suddenly it is full, which suggests that some up front filtering has changed.

There is the Log4J critical vulnerability that the masses are using to attempt to compromise internet servers all over the place.

There also seems to be more skilled phishing going on. I had one client this week that got spear phished after one of their external suppliers got their email hacked.

No not seen an increase here recently but one would think an ISP could trap fragility emails which are spoofed to look like theirs especially when hidden in the header is the real origin of a Google disposable address. Brian

Google's slogan used to be "Don't be evil" but its changed to "Do the right thing"

Oh the irony! :-) (Google could actually do something about these dodgy emails)

Good point. I hadn't tied it to a brand new serious vulnerability.

Nothing here. Could be a british thing. Or the natural fallout from all those people mail ordering stuff around christmas.

David brought next idea :

Not a single one for months, on any of my accounts - I feel left out.
