OT: liability

Which is what I have. Except the one in question is slightly further away, across the field, and makes a living selling seasoned logs from local woods. So when I feel the heat from the woodburner, I know it's energy gathered from the Sun during the last 20 years or so. And it hasn't travelled very far.

Worried that he is going to give his missus one and not close the curtains?

I'd need binnies to see that.

It was clearly straddling the boundary. I can understand the watch repairer ignoring the tree and thinking that the neighbour was looking after it. What does seem unfair is that just because our neighbour had once had a dodgy branch removed, it was deemed their sole responsibility for any damage from there on.

93 million miles, speaking from memory. Not counting the rotation of the earth around the sun over the last 20 years. If you include the latter, you need to multiply by around 120.

:-)

Less than a mile, actually. Transmission from the Sun to a tree is free.

93 million miles? 20 years? Pah! The energy doesn't start at the surface of the sun. After 2 protons get together in the core it can take 100,000 years to get to the surface. It's a hard bloody life for solar photons and takes many generations before they start that final 8 minute hop.
