OT: isolating electricity

Imagine away - I always switch everything off.

My chimney-mounted TV aerial did once get struck by lightning and fused most of the equipment around the TV, and blew the ring-main fuse. Luckily all mendable. It won't happen again because I put a new aerial in the loft.

I don't have a freezer, and empty the fridge. I go on holiday in hot weather, so don't need any central heating then.

If I left the power on, I would worry that some fault would occur and cause a fire.

How 'invisible' are roof tiles to lightning ?

We had one in the 70's (because dad worked for the gas board. We also had a gas tumble drier)

The fridge had a constant flame a bit bigger than a boiler pilot light, sort of finger-tip sized, I found it handy for lighting my stolen magnesium ribbon!
