Does he have a debit or credit card? 's full adult prices, but I don't think a 16 yo is entitled to child fares, anyway.

Weekend trip with his Mum.

I thought there was now a phone app for 16 year olds to use contactless payment.

That's full adult prices, but I don't think a 16 yo is entitled to child fares, anyway.

You can pay by phone but I don't know of a TfL app for that, just the general ones listed by TfL[1].

Easiest thing is if mum has 2 contactless cards (so they can each touch in and out with a different one). But if they will sometimes travel separately she needs to be able to trust the card won't be misused.

If not there are still Oyster cards. Anyone got one left over from past trips? If not they can still be bought. £5 deposit but that's refundable if you buy the card in London.

They are entitled to cheap fares with a 16+ Zip but takes time to get and not worth the cost for a one-off trip. I rather naughtily assumed that wasn't worthwhile.

thought they'd stopped being refundable?

bugger - yes they stopped cash refunds in 2020. Missed the change as we've not had visitors in need of Oyster cards since then.

Still got mine.

Although the company that used to automagically top it up went bust three weeks ago.

Not used it since September.

Think they take any common contactless payment like an ordinary credit card too. Same as most shops.

Do remind him to swipe out at the end of the journey too.
