Most of the traffic calming measures - "cushions" - slow small light cars to a near standstill, while allowing trucks & big 4x4s to go through at full speed.
I suppose it cuts down the diesel smoke... but what you would rather be hit by?

I told them, they should let the bloke who decides policy just pick our Eurovision entries where he can do no damage to the economy and get somebody in who knows what she is doing.. er...... Brian
Our local LibDem candidate is campaigning to have lights put on the "busy" ped crossing along the road from me
But for 95% of the day the road is so quite you can (almost) walk across safely without even bothering to look.
and for the other 5% - travel to work hours, the road is so snarled up that the traffic is virtually stopped, so it's easy-peezy to just cross the road between cars that have already stopped
waste of 100K that the council have much better things to spend their (oops - our) money on

You should be pointing these facts out to all the local non-LibDem candidates, for them to incorporate in their campaign literature.
