I hate to be literal minded when people are having fun, but it is actually the number of lines that is the problem, not the number of posts. Good newsreaders will allow you to toggle seeing quoted text, which goes some way to ameliorate the problem, but I can't find one for os x.

PS; NewsTap allows toggling quoted text, so a cheap secondhand iPad might still be your route to Usenet Joy.
