OT: Been scammed.

Bought a model maker's saw bench as advertised on FaceBook. Was a very good price - but who knows what such things actually cost to mass produce?

What turned up was the saw blade only. Just a simple steel blade. Would have been solid gold for the price I paid. ;-)

Thinking it a mistake, contacted the seller via PayPal. They said that was what they had advertised - blade only.

This is the headline wording of the ad from PayPal:-

*********************

Seller information Dongguan Shunfa Logistics Co., Ltd.

Purchase details MINI TABLE SAW WOODWORKING BENCH LATHE ELECTRIC POLISHER GRINDER DIY MODEL CUTTING SAW AND BLADE

Their website is odd, to say the least.

If they'd left out the 'and' from the description, they might have a leg to stand on. ;-)

Assuming the scam was from here

their shop seems to have gone away, what does paypal's buyer protection have to say?

Everything advertised on facebook is over priced!

Often if you see an item on facebook advertised by a company a quick Google will often find the same item at a much cheaper price, and possibly from someone trading in the UK.

They're looking into it - just contacted them today.

In general, yes. But not always.

Quite.

If you're still looking - I bought a Proxxon one and am happy with it. My brother is also a fan and he does a lot of model making.

I got scammed last month by a Facebook ad. Have vowed to never buy anything via facebook again.

Seller sent very inferior product, will only discuss refund in full if I return item (worth $10 at most). Return postage to China over £20. Won?t discuss partial refund. PayPal no help.

Don't hold your breath on that one.

I had an item not received - plainly lost by the courier per tracking data. After eight weeks it was not resolved. All they did was to increment the resolution date each time I looked. Complaints were met by automated replies. I am now closing my account. I would rather take my chances with Visa Chargeback.

Interesting. Never had to ask PayPal for help before. Ah well.

Seems this is a known scam. When ordering 'blade only' is in the small print.

I remember a story in early days of Ebay when people who thought they were buying a product, as displayed in the picture were, indeed, just paying for the picture.

Dolls house sized items of furniture were/are also common.

Or the CE-marked cardboard boxes.

The box was CE compliant.

The product inside wasn't.

Ive had the same problem. Ordered a Worx saw advertised as coming with three different blades. Only the blades arrived, seller offered 50% discount, when I refused saying I'll claim through PayPal they just refunded 100% and didn't want the blades back.

Aren't there two versions of 'CE' ?. One means EU certified the other means China Export

Seems there's nothing new under the sun. I did contact the seller, and they're not admitting anything.

I suppose to some about £30 is too small a sum to bother about.

The logo is slightly different. If all the tips of the E are in a straight line it's definitely genuine Chinese export.

If the middle is shorter, it is a EU certification fraud.

Now you see, I have had nothing but good results from Paypal. I suspect it maybe depends on other factors, ie was it a scam or was it genuine loss, how much is involved etc than any policy to not refund. Brian

This is the first time I've ever asked for help from PayPal. Ebay, different. Hope they don't disappoint - as I otherwise like them.

They are the cheapest/most convenient way of paying for our car club membership. Both for the members and the club.
