Some films have a special stereo mix for TV.

The audio feed to my external sound system (totally analogue) has compensation pre-set. So using corded headphones with that no different to the speakers.

Then may I suggest you aren't doing the thinking stage long enough. ;-)

Before I actually start to spend any money or real time on a job, I've often had it evolve several times in my head (sometimes ending up a very different solution to the one I first started with).

Quite, even if that 'Bodge' resolved the initial problem in a way when / where 'most people' wouldn't have even looked at doing something about it themselves.

Like freeing up the seized motor bearings on our tumble drying to 'get us going that say' (with a load of damp washing to dry) then having to re-order the replacement bearings 6 months later when the 'bodge' finally gave up (and the first replacements couldn't be found as I don't generally fix what's not broken). You alter the delay in the audio with respect to the video but not visa versa so if the video leads the audio there is nothing you can adjust to compensate. Video leading the audio can occure if there are two many processing steps in the audio chain such as an extra delay in the Bluetooth transmission.

IMVHO, I found the F type to be a tighter fit - might they be preferable than the traditional Belling Lee type for a TV aerial connector, wall socket etc?

My TV has options to go a few 10s of mS in either direction...

(its all done in the digital domain, so pretty much anything is possible if you can spare the RAM for buffering)

Indeed - and not all BT headphones are equal in that respect.

It might well be mine has it buried in there somewhere. The TVs adjustment works well when paired with the headphones, but is inconsistent when paired with the AV amp. It occurs to me now that the TV adjustment may well have no effect on the external amp, depending on how the processing chain is being handled. The amp has the option to tune all the speaker delays to account for spacing and room size - I must check if it has a setting for BT devices.

The TV *knows* the viewer is using headphones because of the initiation process. Could this not trigger an auto video delay to compensate for Bluetooth expected sound delay?

Problem is that the earlier blueteeth cant even tell the TV what delay they have.

Depend on what you value I guess. In technical terms, they are very low loss, with a good impedance match.

They also can't pull out of the socket by accident... (with the twist on ones, the coax will tend to pull out of the plug rather than the plug let go of the socket when you trip over the lead!).

However from a final connection to a TV they are "unexpected" by generations who grew up with belling lee.

Since the days of add on boxes connecting via a RF modulator via the analogue tuner are pretty much over (some MATV systems excepted presumably), you could argue that matters far less now.

Partly - the difficulty is that different BT devices will have different latencies[1]. (there are also different BT standards, so the common subset supported by the sending and receiving devices in any given setup may also differ).

I can certainly relate to that, and I'm sure it is getting worse as I get older.

I spent *10 hours* last weekend making my daughter a 'mud kitchen' in the garden. Basically, a 'ruggedised' outdoor version of a child's kitchen that they can use to mess around with soil, water and mud etc. 'Ruggedised' in this context ought to just mean 'robust' but oh no - not in my book - this thing could (and probably will) quite easily double up as a workbench given how over-engineered it ended up and I agonised over getting things *just right*. I even made sure I made fresh cuts to the ends of all the decking boards I used just so they all looked the same FFS!

'Stressed' is the word I'd use for that weekend. Followed by 'satisfied with a job well done'. Story of my life it seems and I do sometimes wish I could trade a bit less of the 'job well done' (given it is more like 'job overdone'!) for a bit less of the stress and anxiety...

I'd like to think my seemingly endless planning means I end up guaranteeing I won't have to do a job twice. But, no, I've certainly felt obliged to rip something apart that I am not 100% happy with. That said, I do find the rebuild takes a fraction of the time and so perhaps it is primarily down to (lack of) experience that makes me want to plan so much in advance rather than just dive in.

I see that as a downside - if something is pulling the cable enough that something has to give I'd rather it was a part of the chain that was designed to be separated and not just whatever happens to be the weakest link! ;-)

I think I am as well. Whilst I was rarely impetuous (especially with important things) when younger, I think I was more then than I am now. Maybe it's because I now know it can wait till tomorrow, when the circumstances are better, I've had time to plan, get the right tools and materials together ... and lf it can't it probably wasn't worth doing. ;-)

The thing is, those 10 hours, that weekend will soon just be another click of time, compared with the amount of time / fun she (and her friends when they can) get from it.

I think if you are that type, if you are going to do something you want to do the best you can then not doing that, not getting the best result you know you can do, would stress you even more?

I have been doing work here, say plumbing in the sink / dishwasher outlet pipework and found I've ended up with a pipe that is 1/8" shorter than it could have been.

'Will it leak' she asks?

'Nope' I reply.

'Then why are you taking it out?'

'Because it's not right and it's *possible* that that gap (even cut square and properly deburred etc) will catch debris and cause the pipe to block up. And, for the amount of time and money it will cost to do it right *now*, it might save me loads of time and money in the future.'

The fact that I've only had to clean it out a couple of times in the last 30 years suggests that it was indeed worth it.
