When I lived in Carlisle I got a ticket for that. I had parked on the off side (in city centre) without lights. I lived in Carlisle at the time, but it just so happened to have a registration mark of the town the football team were playing that evening!

Coincidence? -- no way!!

A basic rule, obeyed by most, is that you do not cross when the red man is showing even if there is no traffic. On the spot fine if spotted. You cannot buy fireworks - public organised shows only. Equally if you're from the UK, it's disconcerting to see a totally unfenced railway line in a suburban area.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember David J saying something like:

Facing against the traffic flow - ie, the wrong side of the road? It's also an offence in the UK - at least, it used to be, but never enforced unless the copper was feeling arsey.

I believe that it is only within the statutory hours of darkness that that is an offence. Completely neglected by the plod at least these days (AFAICT) along with that other night time parking regulation - when and where to park without lights. The powers are probably delegated to Traffic Wardens who in general only operate during daylight hours.

They have to allow *something* to get the Darwinian imperative moving.

What about the ones who aren't from Darwin?

We do - unyielding utility poles for young men to wrap their cars around. As happens too often here.

Here they wrap BMWs around speed cameras.. they don't survive. I think it should happen more often, then the parents might not let 18yo kids use their BMWs.

Needless to say the parents blame the camera for being there.
