Ask neighbours.

Try phoning the local council or look on their website, some of them run a "trusted tradesman" type scheme.

Or try a site like this:

I've used the Sheffield Forum for such. Apart from the abomination of an interface it does a good job of finding and evaluating tradespeoples. Hopefully your area has a similar thing.

or look for a house nearby which looks like it's been recently repointed well, and ask them.

That's one job I'd be cautious about getting someone in to do. A lot of people screw it up, with any of the wrong materials, excessive damage to the brickwork, or just a mess of a job. Pick warily.

who are in Urmston.

They did an excellent job on the front of our house. It has a very textured surface to the bricks and mortar is eaily trapped in there looking a mess, but they left it perfect - unlike the neighbours who had a cheap cowboy in and it is very obvious.
