Needed: Square Section Metal Tubing

Mar 23, 2007 6 Replies

Not sure if square and tubing go together but anyway ..... I have an aquarium stand that is made from 3/4 " square tubing . It is two end pieces with two stubs welded on at the top and bottom of each end piece and these end pieces have four lengths of tubing that fit on to the stubs thereby making the overall stand with a top shelf and one lower down.

It is 3 feet long but I want to reduce that to take a 2 feet tank. I could just shorten the lengths of tubing by 1 foot but I might want to revert to a 3 feet tank sometime so am looking for a source of this square tubing .

Anyone know of where I could get this .

I am in Glasgow Stuart .

B&Q have a bin of this stuff in most stores. You have to look for it.

Thx for that ..I'd forgotten about them . I'd better take a sample as I'm not sure about the wall thickness.

thx again Stuart

Any steel stockholder, usually from the offcuts rack

Just take one of the existing tubes with you

Tony

Its call box section :0) and I would suggest taking a drive around your local industrial estate and finding a welding shop talk to the welder who may depending on the person cut a few bits off for you for a pint.

Some good few years ago, I tried knocking up a trolley arrangement using this stuff, with 3/4" aluminium square section and plastic end caps/joiners/connectors. It came from - wait for it - B&Q. But it was quite a few years ago.......
