People used to drain them over the side of the apartment building. I think you can imagine some of the dramatic possibilities, like if one fails and releases all the water into the apartment. Landlords figured it out from there.

The word spread, it was like "sleeping on Jello".

Who needs that, when regular bedding is stable. Just go to the store, hop on, try them out, until you find one with sufficient support for you.

And other form-factors are popular with students. These usually involve less material and have less support.

What's really amazing, is a lot of cities have mattress-works in them, and people actually make the mattresses or bedding products in their own city. These won't be brand name. And some of those operations are run by cults, as a source of income. The ones we had here, I think they were "displaced" by construction (for some value of "urban renewal").

Hospital Bed Mattress worth googling?

Just been helping someone out with their NHS home delivery of a motorised hospital bed. It's made of memory foam.

They are designed to spread weight over a large area avoiding pressure sores etc. They probably are a better bet that fulfils actual health needs then all the marketing buzzwords out there.

Saying that, my own mattress came from a newly opened upmarket hotel that failed shortly after. It is firm, obviously made for commercial use by excited people; and it weighs a ton.

I haven't bought a mattress in years. I'm very pleased with that, too.

If someone has had something for 10 years and it has lasted the subsequent review will tell you nothing if what is now on sale is a different design or made by a different company that has taken over the production etc.

It's like people buying into brand loyalty because what they purchased

you used to be able to have Sunday night for free if you booked Friday and Saturday night..... in their Premier Inns but thats now gone.

Until Whitbread sold Costly Coffee to Coca cola, you could have a £5 gift card to buy drinks in Costly coffee....
