Makita LXT battery compatibility.

Actually on closer inspection of the tools' connectors they appear to be the same, one yellow with star (drill) and the other black with star (saw) But the 18v 1.8ah battery from my drill for some reason will not slide on to the saw. The battery has a yellow connector for the charger but has no star and is otherwise black, but the drill it came with is an LXT

The connector on the saw is black with a star The connector on the drill is yellow with a star If I understand the Makita compatibility guide they should be the same.

If the tool and battery have yellow connectors or stars, they should be compatible.

No but I've spotted the difference between the two fitting. The saw has an additional metal tab on the left of the socket which prevents the old battery from sliding in.

Bought a new 4.0ah battery today (with star) and that slots in OK and also fits my original charger, which was another concern. So the original promise that batteries on LET Makitas were all interchangeable is false in that whereas the larger batteries are backwards compatible the smaller batteries are not forwards compatible to larger tools.
