Making a marble garden table.

Since te X Ffed off with all te decant patio furniuter - bitch - I need a gardene table ...

Ive got lods of 12mm marble sheet. I also have a marble coffee table that survive the winter well and pressure washes back to perfection.

My marble sheets have chipped edges here and there, and are not big enough to make a table top without joining.

So I need tools to work marble and a frame to support it all on ...

Any creative solutions to these problems welcomed. I know that diamond will cut it but it's too big for my little tile saw. I know that epoxy (milliput) will join it reasonably well.

How big a table ?though harder to find than they once were the supports for a treadle sewing machine make good outdoor table supports.

In a rare case of fly tipping being beneficial someone dumped three in a hedge on the family farm circa ,1969. All were converted to outdoor tables, two using slate from an old snooker table the third using a piece of marble counter from a former butchers. All survive amongst various family members with the iron legs just painted occasionally with a suitable metal paint.

I wouldnt drill it. Epoxy or polyester resin would glue it all together

Marble is very soft and can be sawn with a normal wood saw, using water as a lubricant. I used this approach when making a marble base for a Chinese copy of a Vibroplex Morse Key.

(A friend of mine works installling marble fireplaces and the cut-out for the fire itself is a useful piece of scrap about a foot square)

I certainly could not cut this with a normal wood saw. I have cut it with a diamond bladed tile cutter. Yes its softer than sandstone but Id say its near slate in terms of hardness.

Maybve we are talking a different type of marble here.

I have an old 1/2" ELU router from the 1990s in a table. Do you think that would work?

Seems use of water is recommended, keeping the router dry if it's under the workpiece might be 'challenging' ...

And maybe my memory is playing tricks, a senior moment, for about that time I also had a block of Bath Stone which I was sawing up into blocks to make a tunnel mouth for the 16mm garden railway.

I could take the router out and use it as a hand router and run wettish with a plastic bag over the business end...

Well limestoines is marvleb that hasnt been melted yet...chemically similar though finer grained.

I have a large Plastplug tile cutter. Which isn't large by pro standards. But had no trouble cutting a pretty big chunk of marble with it by knocking up a support frame to enlarge the bed. It was so thick I had to turn the marble over to cut right through. Did have help to push the slab through, though.
