Rushing to get some trimming done before the brown bin goes out I managed to cut through the cable again - I went for mains power because the cost of battery powered units is much higher.
Any tips as to how to avoid this - apart from "be more careful"? I use it in a sweeping up and down motion, should I stick to one direction only?

Lightweight flexible cable conduit threaded over the 6ft of cable closest to the hedge cutter. Needs to be just bigger than will fit in the teeth of the trimmer.

I try to keep my cable over my shoulder but it keeps sliding off. I've only cut my cable once (so far!).

We got a simple webbing harness (not unlike a Sam Browne belt) with a small extra bit including a press stud, that anchors the cable on the shoulder.
Good idea but I don't have any clothes with those. Maybe a bulldog clip might hold it.

Try running the cable up the sleeve of your right arm. That always worked for me. PeteFJ

Depends which side of you is closest to the hedge.
Always drag the cable behind you. Don't cut towards the line of the cable.
A more important question is 'does he have full RCD protection ?'
Ha! Complaint from my wife's gardener when his preferred hedge trimmer kept tripping the protection.

The point is people do use these such outdoor mains kit in damp conditions and uhknowingly trust the cable insulation is in good unpunctured/unfrayed condition
You have to be careful with VIR as well.
