'Fancy' lights seem to often have a need to fasten directly to the ceiling, which is a pain as I do find loop-in type roses a nice east way to get the various wires in place.
Do similar junction boxes exist for use in the space above the ceiling? The MK et al ones in my various catalougues don't seem to have quite the right capacity. I tend to move the rose up there, but don't find it a very elegant solution.

A standard round 4 way 20A terminal block is what you need. The terminals are used for earth, neutral, switched live and perm live. They're not as easy to wire up as the loop terminals, though, which have separate screws for each wire, rather than a large shared one, where the other wire always pops out when you are tightening.

That's just the problem I always have with junction boxes. Not so much I can't get the job done, but I do find having fewer wires per screw raises my confidence that they're all house squarely and tightly.
There was a box in the MK catalogue (maybe a standard any brand item?) with (IIRC) 3-blocks of quad way connectors which is a close-ish match to what I see as the ideal. It looks like there's space in there for a single choc-block element for the earth, or maybe joining the switched live to the actual lamp.

Think most of these sort are 30 amp, so perhaps rather big for 1mm cable?
There's no reason why you couldn't use an adaptable steel box with choc-blocks of your choice.
I see what you mean. When the chance arises I'll replace the circuit with 6mm!
Yep, but having a nice ready made item for the occasional bit of work I need to do and not having to cruft something up is what I'm hoping for.
I'll take a look at what I can prepare in advance for the next occasion using rearranged standard items...
