Light tuning itself on in the middle of the night

No, I am not going down to see it ATM (unless I get sent to our Leicester job again or HMP Sudbury needs some more work doing - then I will call in to see it)

She is very capable IMHO of changing a 1g light switch if I talk her through it (if required).

I will however ask her to send me the light switch so I can strip it down if it is the switch.

If the light switch is not the cause I will go and have a look ASAP.

Much as I like her - there is also the possibility that it is a woman making a mistake:-)

Is it just an ordinary switch or something nifty like a touch plate. Those can be a pest. Another thought could it be leakage, ie its glowing a bit due to capacitance coupling and its some LED device which iis prone to that issue. Brian

Of course in the rose there is normally the unswitched live, so one has to wonder if the issue is in fact there. Brian

That is by no means a given. Most of my lights carry only switched to the wall units or pendants.

It's spreading, a neighbour just told me her kettle turned itself on this afternoon ... not a fancy "smart" kettle.

Could be a new variant of the dumbing down pandemic. Lights on.. Kettle on...

I used to get called out by housing associations, now and then, to strange-sounding faults where it tuned out that the girl in the office hadn't been able to make sense of it so she'd just scribbled down any old tosh and got back to doing her nails. Sometimes it was obvious that the problem was psychological. With the tenant I mean.

For instance, "Can you stop them watching me?" "Them. I don't know who it is." "How do they watch you?" "Through that!" She pointed at the TV set. "There isn't a camera or anything in your telly love." "Oh yes there is! It's there!" She pointed at the 'O' in Sony. After some discussion we agreed that if I put some black tape over the 'O' the problem would be solved.
