Leaking garden tap.

Nov 05, 2004 1 Replies

I have a garden tap that i installed a few months ago. It was fine until recently it started leading.

The one i have is an all copper one, copper tap with copper pipe coming to it. It only leaks when the tap is turned on. The leak is around the spout. I have a hosepipe connected to it with a jubilee clip over the spout so it's not coming from there. When i removed the spout there is a small 'o' ring which seems fine.

Anyone know how to remedy the leak?

Thanks in advance.

Unusual to have a tap made of copper!

  1. If the tap spout is threaded use a proper hose connector. If you use a jubilee clip the water can still escape by following the thread.
  2. Screw down the packing if it leaks round the shaft.
  3. Check and if necessary replace the fibre washer where the tap mechanism is screwed onto the body.
