Searching, and John Lewis offers pendant lamp shades which are "non dimmable". Bulb not supplied. How do you dim a lampshade? The world has gone mad! Grumble grumble Dave R

We are looking for new lampshades because.

Unfortunately all the ones we can find in the usual suspect shops have a rating around 8W LED bulbs. Highest I have seen so far is 10W. We have 13W dimmable LEDs at the moment, so it is a bit of a struggle,

Is there a trend towards dimmer (oops) lighting? Style and/or power saving?

At our stage of life we want brighter lighting, not gloom.

Grumble

Strange. My shades are all 60W incandescent

No idea. What size shade are you after?

I bought all mine on Amazon

They still say '60W incandescent' Which is more like 100W LED if such a thing were possible

You aren't going to run into heat issues with any LED.

You expose it to socialism.

Try Amazon. Far better range and price point

Indeed. It doesn't seem to be the one I was born in.

I suspect the manufactures have just been lazy and converted the old incandescent rating to a LED equivalent wattage

60W incandescent = 6 to 10W LED

BUT the old max wattage rating was due to incandescent bulbs running so hot it would take the skin from your hands. LED equivalent bulbs run cool in comparison.

And they also give a 'recommended' bulb, not a rating.

I agree

You don't. As they say: "non-dimmable"! In fact, it applies to all lampshades. Unless Elon has invented one using AI (sorry, SI).

The issue with LED bulbs is the heat they do generate is concentrated in the base and adequate ventilation is required to prevent the base overheating and degrading the electronics & led. I cannot see this being a problem with open type lampshades but does so with any enclosed styles.

We recently bought an IKEA pendant shade, looks a bit like the Star Wars Death Star and it specified a maximum 13.5 Watt LED.
