If Cursitor Doom had a clue, which he doesn't which why he has to pretend he's killfiled me, he's appreciate that citing a whole series of articles and papers dating from 1910 to 2009 is a nonsense; or to use the more technical term a steaming load of old horse s*it.

The reason being of course that the latest papers on any topic are the only ones that matter as they will either support or refute the data and theoretical suppositions upon which the earlier papers were based.

Which is how science progresses by refuting or refining previous theories as first articulated by Karl Popper. Falsification rather than verification being the name of the game.

I usually listen to the other (phone-in) LBC, and I'm amazed how many expert virologists we have in the UK. Most of them are in-phoners, but some of the presenters are too. Some are telling us that the government's coronavirus policy is completely wrong - especially that of (apparently) intending to lock OAPs in their homes, and shooting them on site if they emerge. [Actually, I'm exaggerating - but only slightly.]

In contrast with the UK, it appears that the RoW (apart from maybe the USA) are doing things much better. One thing that I have noticed is that most of the presenters who are preaching against the government, and stirring up FUD among the listeners, are those who were pro-Brexit.

As for the adverts, none of the springtime adverts for holidays and cruises have been taken off. [It's highly unlikely that it would be possible to fulfil these offers.] The same goes for those which, if effective, would lead to large numbers of buyers flocking to various emporia that are offering vast discounts, despite the fact that mass-gatherings are presently being strongly discouraged).

The holiday adverts were made at some expense and paid for in advance. The companies in question are simply maintaining their presence in the marketplace. While potentially disappointed customers won't be blaming the companies for the fact those particular holidays are no longer available.

In any case, under present circs the only people who might want to take over those slots might be the Govt for public information films except nowadays that function is satisfactorily fulfilled at far less cost on the Web,

I've found them to be pro remain myself How odd.

The problem is that what the government is doing is contrary to 'common sense' if you ignore the science and the strategy behind the government's approach.

Given the situation with China

.................A...........B........C.............D.... E...............F..........G...........H China...80,849...+25....3,199.....+10...66,931....10,719... 3,226...56.2

The two figures of chief interest here are

C Total deaths 3,199 out of 80,849 cases and E 66,931 totally recovered

which would suggest to me that with only 10 new deaths China is on the way to stability after suffering only 3,199 deaths. The latest news being that new cases are being caused by vistors to China bringing the infection from outside.

Can you please explain exactly why the Governments strategy and the science behind it is projected to have a far worse outcome than that of China; who unlike the UK was totally unprepared for the virus when it first appeared ?

Which is why remoaners are complaining.

The fact remains, however, that CO2 levels have been at mush higher levels in the past.

400k years is nothing in geological terms.

What's recorded history to do with anything? That's about 5 minutes.

The trouble with that article is that it doesn't give any real history.

Bit dim then aren't they. And the above should actually say:

" ... contrary to 'common sense' ONLY if you ignore the science and the strategy ..."

+11111111111!! The 'poem' is something that even William Topaz McGonagall would cringe at if he heard it

And if anyone wonders WTF a 'wall crawler' is, there's a TV advert showing a small model of a man with suckers on his hands and feet - so I suppose that's what a 'wall crawler' is.

BTW, despite being repeated every 15 minutes, the advert is making such a lasting impression on me that I have no idea off-hand what it's flogging.

I LISTEN to a lot of telly in the background and sometimes its weeks before I actually see the thing and realise what in fact the ghastly ad is supposed to be selling

NASA has a huge problem that it is having difficulty dealing with. At great expense they launched a series of satellites specially designed to measure atmospheric temperatures. Since then, the satellite data obtained has failed to agree with the results from the 100+ CC models (except the Russian one) and also failed to support the somewhat hysterical claims for rising planetary temperatures.

I'd go with Doom, if I were you.

Even more make money by doing the same thing, that shows 'hockey sticks' and the rest of it. None of which is shown in the Central England Temperature Record dating back to 1659.

Climatology is a fraud, just like Lysenkoism, phrenology, and Nazi racial "science".

Broadly speaking, yes.

I suspect however, that Covid19, is not...

No one sensible has suggested it is.

Of course, the same can?t be said for the nonsense in the media and the Internet stirrers postings. As someone pointed out elsewhere, at least one newspaper had two articles side by side which contradicted each other re the proposed, and so called, lock down.

You are an imbecile.

michael adams was thinking very hard :

I'd like to see the Charly Says PIF's revived but for todays Britain. Charly says if you're over 60, stay at home and isolate yourself or Charly says if you're a vulnerable young white girl then don't go into kebab shops on your own etc.
