Insulated blind for bathroom window?

Good evening all, I admit to being a little lazy here. Have had a quick google but can't find what I am looking for. No doubt someone here will have encountered a similar problem.

Our ground floor bath/shower room has a single glazed N facing stained glass window. Changing or altering the window would likely end in divorce. In our advancing years we find the little room quite cold despite a rad heated by woodburner and/or gas ch also an electrically heated towel rail. Vast majority of the heat is going straight through the glass. I'm looking for something like a bespoke blind with decent insulation. It would have to be of a very specific size and no doubt swmbo would want to have say in the fabric design.

Any thoughts please?

Nick.

If you google for "Thermal Blinds" you'll get loads of hits.

SWMBO bought a load from ebay, they are fabric with a plastic coating on one side (they also sell as blackout blinds since the layer prevents light penetration).

They do make a bit of difference but since they can never completely fill the window aperture, the gaps allow convection currents to circulate.

I know somebody who has cut a sheet of 1/2in expanded polystyrene so that it is a push fit into the window frame in a similar situation. Not what you were asking for but it is cosy!

You could frame a piece of clear window plastic, neatly attach draft excluder stuff to the edges, and force-fit it in the window recess. Secondary double-glazing. It would let her enjoy the stained glass, and would be easy to remove for cleaning.

You would be better with some sort of secondary glazing.

This ranges from temporary plastic film to an additional frame and sheet of glass/plastic.

Blinds are a waste of money unless they are fully frame and an airtight fit., in which case to may as well do the secondary option.

It's good to get ones that can be easily removed so you can do maintenance on the existing window.

Lots of sytems about.

I'd have thought some bespoke secondary glazing was a more obvious answer. We usedthat idea for years here and apart from where to put the damn thing in the summer it worked very well. Of course being a bathroom you will nee some ventilation unless you want to turn it into a sauna! Brian

I agree really. One extra point: if the leaded window isn't airtight it can be puttied & the excess polished off. Then your 2ndary g acts as (badly specced) 2ndary rather than just draft excluder.
