Not surprising, as the connector was badly fitted in the first place!
The cable should fail first if the connector is properly fitted.
I recall PPC doing a demo when they first started selling their connectors in the UK.
Prep the cable, fit and crimp F connector, then screw connector onto an F socket mounted on a hefty weight.
Clamp other end of cable then repeatedly lift and drop weight.
The cable always failed (broke) - never the cable/connector mating.
