Infrequent sewer inspections?

Yet another gigantic fatberg has been found, but surely this has taken years to accumulate? Do the water companies really not do any routine inspections, so the first they know about a fatberg is when the drains overflow?

Yes that is about the size of it. They inspect around towns with many food preparation places I know but there are miles of sewers and not very many people checking them. Brian
