I found it in the HRPC website
IDEAL 075096 HT EXCHANGER ASSY RESPONSE SE
I guess this is the one? I won't tell you the price, suffice to say, get a new boiler.
Angus
Thanks, angus.
I suspect it will be a new boiler:)

How on earth can a heat exchanger cost £700+ when you can buy a new boiler for that. i thought it would be £200 or something.

This is the retail price - I dare say the trade price is somewhat lower (I can't remember my trade login details, so I can't view it, I normally just call my local branch). On top of this, you'd have the pain (or expense) of stripping down a Response, not an enviable task (I wouldn't want to do it, no matter how much you would pay me), plus you'd still have, in my opinion, a crap boiler, several years old, with lots of other parts eager to go wrong over the next couple of years. Just changing a pressure relief valve on a Response is the biggest pain in the arse.

Thanks Angus,
depressing news for an amateur diyer like myself. fortunately a smallish leak so at least ive got some heating and time to look around (fingers crossed)
