Hurricanes in the Antarctic

> This could get extremely interesting.

Region: Antarctica - Magnitude: 6.1 Date & Time: 2015/01/11 18:39:44 UTC Latitude: 68.90 S Longitude: 127.40 E Magnitude: 6.1

What price an hurricane force storm there I wonder?

What governs things in the tropics is the length of time between medium mag nitude earthquakes. This one has occurred 23 hours since the last one so it is in the upper end of things. For comparison the slated Cat 4 in the Indi an ocean was 31 hours or so after the previous medium, a quake at Hokkaido Japan.

I think a 15 hour gap is only worth a TD, a named storm has to go 18 hours IIRC. You might suppose I'd know what ancillaries go with all that but natu rally, you'd be wrong.

This wasn't the tropics though so it is as I say, very interesting.

Sorry about that. It was intended for uk.sci.weather. Don't let it stop you though. The original post can be found on sci.geo.earthquakes.

I think. (Too long past my bedtime, obviously.)

PS: I do know a little about Antarctic storms, please assume you don't need to teach me anything. You may know a lot more than me but I have the basic s, thank you.

What have hurricanes got to do with the timing of things. The problem with having a typhoon, what we call Hurricanes up her, in such a place is finding out what is powering it. Its cold down there after all, and most hurricanes and typhoons need a temperature differential to build. Brian

Blast: I thought it was a thread about lost WWII RAF planes. (Very lost.)

Not that far though. I think you want the "soldiering question" thread.
