How to remove stubborn shower tap fitting

Hey, I am having a lot of trouble removing a shower tap fitting. I have tried a penetrating oil and a strap wrench (which keeps slipping off as the fitting is tapered). I have a picture here:

would like to remove it undamaged... if possible.

Removing tap shrouds and the type you have there is easier if you do not grip close to the base where the threads are as this pinches them and the shroud will not move.

A pair of grips (water pump pliers) is best for the job.

Pour boiling water over the base where the threads are put, some tissue or J cloth etc. over the end of the shroud closest to the spindle and grip as tight as possible with the grips and turn whithout slipping.

This will more often than not do the trick.

Remember, keep the grips away from the threaded end.
