We have just had a few warm days and I was for most of it working in a portable cabin. Not really that portable as it is connected to a gas supply and has CH.
Suggestions for coping with the unbearable heat inside the cabin from the staff at the premises were in this order

Way back in my engineering career, the company re-located the office staff, to what at the time was the largest re-locatable building in the country.
Wall hung radiators fed from a central gas boiler. Boiler house manager lost a lot of hair because the residents, on sunny days, would turn off the radiator valves and then complain bitterly the next cold morning!
I think the eventual solution was to fit lockable thermostatic valves.
Leave a hosepipe constantly flushing the radiators?
I once worked in a building that had been modified by installing internal walls in new locations. This resulted in the thermostats for many areas being the wrong side of the partition wall. The thermostat inside the partition controlled the heating/cooling for another partitioned off area.
Having worked in Portacabin accommodation at one time you have my sympathy.
Perhaps a spongy cloth covering on the roof with a slow running hosepipe to make the most of the evaporative cooling?
The correct and green answer, of course, is an air source heat pump.

Portable aircon units. A company I worked for in the past had about 20 portakabins, and I worked in one through he summer months. Those cheap water filled ones with the air exhaust you pop through the window seemed to work on all but the hottest days.
I don?t think Adam was looking for suggestions. Just pointing out the idiocy of turning off the radiators *after* trying opening the windows. ;-)

I was once in charge of the very crude controls (1) for office heating. It was Portakabin units, 28 per floor, most of which had one short wall and two pillars. There were about 100 staff, per floor, quite a few large CAD monitors and fluorescent lighting. Except for the very depths of winter, the heating had to be turned off around 9:00, otherwise it was uncomfortably hot by the afternoon. It was some years before any cooling was installed.
(1) Two boilers, time switch, single roomstat per floor. I only ever ran one boiler, swapping them each month.

Many years ago I went for an interview at the path labs in the new teaching hospital in Cardiff. They had just bought a DEC PDP11/?? to create a Lab system, but had been told that it needed 'air conditioning' (5Megabyte fixed disk and 5 Megabyte removable pack, RL06??).
Being a typical public service building, layers of pen pushers had been involved and came up with the 'solution'. The PDP11 was separated from the main part of the Lab where the Coulter counters and actual work was done with an internal partition wall, with glass from just above work top height up to the ceiling. Then they installed a *window* aircon unit into one of the glass panels so that the hot noisy exhaust blew all over the Lab staff and their microscopes and analysers. Blimey.
I remarked to the chief technician that that arrangement would keep them nice and warm in winter, and how come none of the senior lab staff hadn't noticed this gaff from the *copious* plans and interminable meetings ?.
I didn't get the job.
