The thing with drum bearing is, they work in a potentially very hostil environment, so their demise is quite rapid. When the bearing wears, the seal begins to leak, lets moisture through, and the moisture rusts the bearing.

I worked with equipment that was too expensive to throw away, and I was painfully aware of how few alternative fields were available to me.

I think you will find that there is sufficient weight in the concrete ring to drown more than one enemy. :-)
Because its much cheaper to get an asian person to assemble a new one than to employ a much more expensive westerner to repair the old washing machine given how they are made now
