Hot radiator

I've only just installed a thermostat of any type (refer to earlier posts and the help I received thankfully in doing the job). I chose the Drayton Wiser but just went for the Thermostat kit 1 (single thermostat + hub and no radiator control) simply because I could not see a return on investment for the more sophisticated setups. I'd like to say I'm saving lots of money but the weather has just been so mild that even now at 21.40 the lounge is warmer than the set temperature of 19degC though it looks as if the boiler must have been on for about 1.5hrs earlier on to do that.

PS My bedroom is cool at night and cold in the day - isn't cool the recommendation? I took the thermostat into the bedroom yesterday afternoon as I wanted to see the Rel Humidity and it fired the boiler up.

PPS Have you had your system for long?

For around 19 years now, I have had battery powered timer/thermostats (bought during an offer for £14 each from Maplin), driving Honeywell motorised valves (bought for £18 each in a clearance sale at B&Q). That allows radiators in living room, kitchen, hall, bathroom, three bedrooms, plus hot water cylinder and (added later) conservatory underfloor heating, to all operate to their own temperatures and times.

Over the years, I have increased radiator sizes (and pipes where necessary), ready for coping with a lower water temperature. I am now looking at installing a module (already bought) that communicates with the boiler, allowing me to run the heating at one flow temperature and switch to a higher one for heating the hot-water cylinder. The comms for that may also let me add weather compensation.

Well done, getting stuff at bargain prices and knowing what to do with it.
