HHGTTG on the radio

OK so it's not DIY but there must be others on this group who are interested in listening to it again.

Yes indeed! It means that I can replace my dusty old cassette tapes of the original with mp3s.

That reminds me. I need a cassette player. I found a cassette that has a prediction on it and that prediction came true.

I have them all on CD (all five series)!

Ahbut do you have the LP version? (Which is not the same as the radio version)

Due to copyright on the soundtrack of the original radio play?

As it's a BBC record, I doubt it. Secind thoughts by the team, or a different producer/ director. DNA was apparently involved in both versions, as he was for all versions up until the movie.

I was sure that it was a copyright issue - it matters not - it's still a chance to listen to the original version.

Or just download it all.

I do, but I have the scripts as well...with differences marked.

There were bits that never saw the light of day too...such as when the Restaurant at the End of the Universe was actually a burger bar (in the end that was the Big Bang Burger Bar). By having it at the end, they wanted to be able to have someone (Arthur I think) say:

"Oh, the world ends not with a bang, but a Wimpy?"

Or don't be a cheapskate, reward the people who created the show in the first place, and BUY the thing.

Well it's on iplayer for free and I've already paid for it at least twice, once for the orginal making/broadcast via the licence fee and again as I have a set of cassettes somewhere.

No two versions of HHG have exactly the same contents.

It was a copyright issue with the music. See Wikipedia.

I blame the Infinite Improbability Drive for that.

Dave,

But how many of the people using that link have also legitimately bought a commercial copy, do you think?

The copyright laws are horrendously complex, ambiguous and impossible to police, and illegal downloading is clearly here to stay; I was simply pointing out an alternative which some people might like to consider.

...although some people may not have a choice. Here's what I see via that link:

"Sorry, the web page you have requested is not available through Virgin Media. Virgin Media has received an order from the Courts requiring us to prevent access to this site in order to help protect against copyright infringement.
