Help protect 3-port valve by switching off hot water last

My heating engineer, who is very good and always does a good job,fitted a new 3-port valve in the airing cupboard last week. Hereplaced the Danfoss with a Honeywell. The Danfoss has lasted 15years. He explained how these valves work and said that it was alwaysbetter, if possible, to have the hot water switch off AFTER theheating, because this guarantees less wear on the valve due to the waythe valve positions itself when the hot water is switched off. Even ifone has the central heating on and it is then turned off, it's a goodidea to switch on the hot water briefly, even for only 30 seconds, soas to reposition the valve beneficially.MM

My DHW is about £100 a year. In winter CH is £100 a WEEK.

You must have either a large house or like it very warm, possibly both. 500 litres lasts me about 10 months usually. However, I *don't* like a very warm house. Some people's houses are unbearably hot. OK, I suppose, if there are infants or old people, but I'm not exactly young myself and I don't like high temperatures. Two years ago, Toulouse in the south of France was awful. 32 deg at 3:00 a.m. It was a relative's house and they don't have air conditioning.
