If you use the boiler juice web site, you'll get a fairly competitive price there.

Not long ago I compared notes with a pal new to oil CH & the joys of being an oil trader. All my 'trades' were at a lower price than Boiler juice quoted. Inference from the data was that (a) boiler juice have some agreement or price monitoring with one or more oil firms in each area and (b) they are commission agents - ie they add on a % to the oil trading co price.

Your best bet for a decent deal is to draw up a short list of CH fuel oil companies from yellow pages & poll each one by phone for price and delivery time. Fairest method for all concerned. Note prices quoted vary between companies day by day because of the timing of the firms own restocking. Different payment methods also alter the price to you. It is a highly competitive market with margins to the bone. Any dealer exposing his prices on the web would be immediately undercut, so you can be certain Boiler juice are never the cheapest.

Buying inconjunction with your neighbours can also help.

Don't disagree with anything you've said, but the OP was asking for a recent price. I took this to be an indication of what he might expect to pay. BJ is at least as good a starting point as anywhere else for that info. Even if someone had popped up and said 'I paid xp per litre' that info is not really *that* meaningful, given the day-to-day volatility of oil prices.

Yup, agree 100% with that advice too, but there again BJ is a good starting point against which you can measure the offers of the other suppliers. I've found in some instances BJ ain't the dearest, they tend to be more or less middle of the road in my area. Having said that, I've never bought from them, merely used their price as a yardstick to use when negotiating with others.

All I'm trying to do is turn known volume consumed into £ for a running cost comparison with my existing house and a prospective house purchase. Hence asking if anyone in East Sussex can tell me what they have paid recently, simple really !!!!!

So my suggestion of Boiler Juice was perfectly valid, given the circumstances. I appreciate also that you're probably only looking for a rule of thumb comparison, but there are *many* factors that can influence running costs between houses. Having replaced my old boiler last Autumn, I've been truly amazed at how inefficient it was since the new one has been in and working, I know we've had a relatively mild winter, but my oil use has dropped quite dramatically. I presently have half a tank, where I'd have been looking for a refill in the next two or three weeks. Then there's the house type, if it's detached, whether or not the roof and walls have been insulated, type of glazing....... :-)

Yes Heating Juice was useful - thanks, but the comparison is on a know volume of oil used in the target house so "but there are *many* factors that can influence running costs between houses" is largely eliminated apart from user factors, and as this is a Rayburn on 24/7 variation is minimal !

I have found the same dramatic drop this year, with the same boiler I had last year.

The winter has been excessively mild.

Wish I could say that - it's -23 outside. However, people consider it mild in comparison to previous years.

Where is it -23 at the moment ?
