Please could someone suggest a source for gutter supports for use on an old house without fascia board - the type that consists of a "U" that clips onto the gutter fitted onto a vertical bolt that is fixed into a horizontal metal bar driven into the mortar on the wall.

most building merchants should sell them, my local Travis Perkins has them outside in a basket. you will need the bit with the gutter clip on and a driving bar.
Ask for "Rise and Fall gutter brackets, Half round or OG . Don't just hammer the spikes in. drill under size hole first. If you just hammer them in you will probable lift the brickwork.
